Acrylic Tub Liners and Surrounds Q&A
1. What is an acrylic tub liner?
JM Clemente Co.’s acrylic tub liners are a new bathtub that is custom made to fit perfectly over an existing cast iron or steel tub. The sheets of acrylic used to form the new acrylic tub liners are .280 inch thick, which is more than one quarter of an inch! Most of the new, off-the-shelf bathtubs are less than half as thick. JM Clemete Co. offers the heaviest gauge acrylic tub liners in the industry. The concept is simple and the results are amazing!
2. How are acrylic tub liners and wall surrounds installed?
A highly trained technician installs a new acrylic tub liner and wall surround system over your old existing bath tub and walls without disturbing plumbing, floor, or walls. Butyle adhesives, common in the automobile and glass industries, are used in conjunction with 100% silicone sealants to install and seal the acrylic tub liner and wall systems. The 100% silicone sealant is made specifically for acrylic applications. The sealant also contains a mildewcide to prevent mildew and bacterial growth. Taking your bathroom from old to new in just a day has never been so easy or affordable. The installation process also reduces the mess and inconvenience.
3. How long does it take to install an acrylic tub liner and wall system, and how soon can I use my new tub?
An acrylic tub liner, wall surround system, and accessories (soap dishes, grab bars, etc…) are typically installed in one day. In instances where a large amount of wall repair work is necessary, or a new tub and shower faucet is installed, the process may take up to two days. Your new acrylic tub liner and wall system is ready for use the evening installation is completed, or the following day.
4. Can I get an acrylic tub liner only, or an acrylic wall surround only?
Yes! One of the many great features of the acrylic tub liners and wall surrounds is that you don’t have to have both the acrylic tub liner and the wall system installed at the same time. An acrylic tub liner can be installed without an acrylic wall system, and an acrylic wall system can be installed without an acrylic tub liner. JM Clemente Co. is also able set up to install acrylic shower surrounds, shower floors, and ceiling panels.
5. Why is acrylic better than cast iron, steel, or fiberglass?
With its durable surface, acrylic will not chip, crack, scratch or peel, and is completely color fast. It will not stain, yellow, or fade. Acrylic is warm to the touch and will help to keep your bath water warmer longer. Acrylic tub liners are more comfortable to sit in than your old cast iron or steel tub, but feel just as solid. Each acrylic tub liner comes with a non-slip bottom so there is no need to use a bath mat. Since the acrylic tub liner, wall systems, and accessories have a beautiful mirror-like high gloss finish, cleaning is a breeze. By the way, our acrylic tub liners come with a limited lifetime warranty.
6. How do I clean and care for my new acrylic tub liner and wall surround?
JM Clement Co. provides its customers with a complete list of recommended cleaners and care and maintenance instructions. For normal everyday cleaning, most customers prefer to use a little dishwashing liquid on a sponge or soft washcloth. Since the 100% acrylic tub liners and wall systems are non-porous and glossy, soap runs right off and bacteria isn’t given the opportunity to flourish.
7. How much does it cost?
There are many factors that effect the amount of your investment, such as color, style, and difficulty of installation. JM Clemente Co. offers free, no obligation in-home estimates. Once we are able to see what you need, and you decide what you want, we will give you an exact quote. Most acrylic tub liners and wall systems are installed at half the cost of a traditional tear out and replacement. A typical installaton takes one man, one day, so labor costs are greatly reduced— resulting in a low cost innovation and minimum down time.
